Hi 3M!

This will be my final post of the year! This year has been so different, and full of both roses and thorns. I really appreciate that some of you have been reading the posts and staying connected with me in some way. It's hard to teach without feeling connected to students, and I bet it's difficult to learn sometimes without connecting with your teacher!

This past week me made a Chocolate Angel Pie and some chocolate chip cookies for "the cousins." We also played a lot in the backyard, played with the dogs, and played dress up. Sabine is always Minnie but has changed to wearing pink heels (pretend ones) she got for Christmas instead of her typical Minnie shoes, and Margot has started dressing up too!

I can't wait to spend the summer with my girls. I will also work hard to research and plan new lessons for the fall, even though school may be a bit different! I will miss you all and miss our fun times and our learning together.

Love,
Mrs. Martel

Hi Third Graders!

This week we enjoyed the nice weather and spent a ton of time outside. This weekend we went to a small beach in Weymouth so Sabine could collect seashells, and we had a blast! Margot was a little bit upset about the cool air and cold water (you'll see the funny picture below).

This past week Sabine and I also did some baking...we made a s'mores treat. Toby gave us the recipe! It was delicious and tasted just like having s'mores from a campfire. Sabine had never eaten marshmallows before, and I think those were her favorite part!

Did any of you go out anywhere over the past week (of course still social distancing)? Are you getting excited for summer vacation?

I miss you all and hope you are well.

Love,
Mrs. Martel

Hi 3M,

We have only a few weeks left of remote learning, and tomorrow I am going into the classroom to clean it out. I will take some pictures so you can see a few last glimpses :(

This weekend we spent a lot of time playing outside. We have a family of bunnies living in our yard, so my dogs spend a lot of time sniffing around and looking for bunnies. Whenever we play inside, Sabine wants to play dress-up. I included a picture of her as "Minnie-rella." Margot gets to be Daisy and I have to be "Count Micula" (from a Halloween episode). I don't have to do much as Count Micula except wear a cape and follow Minnie-rella's orders.

As for cooking...we made a few gluten-free recipes to bring to my sister. One of them was gluten-free peanut butter cookies!

What have you been up to with your families? Have you done any activities together or played any games over the past week?

Love,
Mrs. Martel

Hi Third Graders!

This week was busy! Sabine and Margot want to go outside ALL the time, so I try to take them out in between my meetings and whenever I can. We spent a lot of time outside this weekend at least, even though the weather wasn't as nice. You can see a picture of them playing with the "car wash" Sabine got for her birthday.

We cooked homemade pizza, pretzels, and potstickers this week! I have been trying to recreate a lot of my favorite Chinese dishes, since we can't do takeout from our favorite places anymore (I included a picture of the potstickers). Have you cooked any new/favorite recipes with your families?

Dressing up and playing pretend are a big deal at our house, and this weekend Sabine was "Minnie-rella the carpenter." She was basically Minnie and Cinderella combined, and had to use her tool box to fix all the "broken" appliances in the house. I have no idea why she chose to wear the fake glasses.

Please post a comment to tell me about your weekend!

Love,

Mrs. Martel

Hi Third Graders!

We had a busy week last week! Sabine got some new toys throughout the week in the mail for her birthday, my sister had her first baby, Newton celebrated his sixth birthday, and Margot had her first popsicle!

You'll see in the pictures the GIANT unicorn I showed you during meeting. Sabine is getting used to it...we've been brushing it, teaching it tricks (it's very smart, actually), and taking it for walks. The walks mostly involve Sabine dragging it around the house haha. Sabine also got a splash mat from her aunt, and we had a blast playing with it! I couldn't get any pictures of Margot because she kept slipping and I had to hold onto her the whole time. We were all wearing our clothes and got soaked! Margot mostly likes playing with the outdoor car she got for her birthday...it has pieces you can move around to change the water flow, and has gadgets for washing the car. She loves it!

My sister had her first baby, Cole Anthony, on May 13th. I made her a bunch of food she loves, including pumpkin bread. The 13th is also Newton's birthday! The picture of the cookies is a picture of the dog cookies Sabine and I made for him. He is obsessed! If I even move the container on the counter he comes running thinking he will get a treat.

Lastly, Margot had her first popsicle today. She didn't eat the whole thing, but definitely would have if I had let her. I kept pulling it away from her mouth to try and get her to take breaks, but she kept pulling my hand back. It was a yogurt popsicle, so it's safe for babies.

I can't wait to hear about your weekends! Post a comment to me below about your week last week or your weekend :)

Hi Third Graders,

I hope you all enjoyed Mother's Day with your families! Post a comment below if you want to share what you did with the group.

This weekend we celebrated Sabine's third birthday. I decorated the house, and we had fun playing with Sabine's presents all day. I made a cake and frosting, and my nephew decorated it to look like Minnie Mouse. He is so talented! I love baking, but not decorating :)

For lunch we had homemade pizza, which is Sabine's favorite. She has so many new toys, you can barely walk in our playroom! Sabine discovered Legos for the first time and has been enjoying them. We got her a Lego (Duplo) house, train with track, and Minnie house.

I miss you all and can't wait to see you on Tuesday!

Love,
Mrs. Martel

P.S. Sam and other Harry Potter fans - check out the Harry Potter dress my college friend sent to Sabine!

Hi all!

I'm going to post every Sunday from now on, since I've been so busy creating slides, lesson plans, and attending meetings. It's been worth it, however, because now I get to see you all twice a week during our morning meetings!

This weekend we played outside a TON and had fun splashing in the kiddie pool. We did a lot of yard work as well, but we are going to wait until June to open the big pool. Sabine and Margot both ate watermelon and loved it! They both had it all over their clothes. Next time I'm going to serve it outside :)

I miss you all and hope you are having fun with your families.

Love,
Mrs. Martel

Hi 3M,

I can't wait until our morning meeting this Tuesday! We have lots to talk about and fun stuff to do :)

This weekend Margot had her first cookie, Sabine had 0 bathroom accidents, and I made pork fried rice! Margot's first cookie was a bit plain to my taste, but she seemed to love it. Sabine has been "practicing" using the bathroom for about a week and a half. It has been hard work for her, but she is really doing well! As for pork fried rice...I am trying to perfect the recipe. This was my fifth try!

I miss you all and I hope you were able to enjoy the nice weather on Saturday!

Love,
Mrs. Martel

Hi all,

I had so much fun at our meeting this morning. I look forward to many more meetings in the future!

I was so busy with work today, I didn't take any pictures of the girls. I uploaded some pictures of our class visiting the Institute of Contemporary Art instead! Remember being shut in "Love is Calling" and experiencing the artwork?

Hi Third Graders,

I hope you got some rest over the long weekend! We really enjoyed playing outside lots with our puppies.

Sabine got some foam dough on Easter from her aunt, so we played with that over the weekend as well. I made fried rice for the third time...I'm obsessed with tweaking my recipe to get it just right. Respond with something you did if you have time!

I can't wait to see you at our next morning meeting.

Love,
Mrs. Martel
